The World Needs You, Man
The world needs you. Let me say it again: the world needs you.
Good morning, brother.
Your wife needs you. Your children need you.
Your job needs you.
Society needs you.
The next time you feel disrespected, discouraged, unimportant, or irrelevant, know this: the world needs you.
The enemy will do everything he can to get you to believe that you are not necessary. That you are inconsequential.
But a world without men would fall apart.
Who builds the roads, bridges, vehicles, petrol stations, sewer systems, nuclear plants, houses, and factories? Almost exclusively men.
Who farms the food that is delivered to grocery stores? Who built the grocery stores, engineered the trucks that deliver the food to the grocery stores, and built the factories that make the trucks? Almost exclusively men.
Who mines the coal, drills the oil, and builds the machines to process both and invents better ways to optimize the infrastructure? Almost exclusively men.
Where would electricity, plumbing, even houses be without men? Almost nonexistent.
Who protects the country, invents the weapons to protect the country, and goes to war risking his life when an enemy threatens to destroy our homeland? Almost exclusively men.
Some will contend that the reason men are responsible for the vast majority of our societal infrastructure is because that’s the patriarch hierarchy they were born into. This is false.
Studies show that far more men run the infrastructure in more industrialized societies than in developing societies where there is less of a gender gap. (See United Nations’ 61 page report: Gender and Industrialization-Developments and Trends in the Context of Developing Countries and Journal of Macro Economics’ 2023 19 page report: Access to infrastructure and women’s time allocation: Implications for growth and gender equality.)
What does this mean? In industrialized societies where women have more options, a greater percentage of them choose not to enter the workforce and more specifically, STEM jobs: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Why? To overstate the obvious: because women are wired differently than men. However, in developing countries women have fewer options and thereby are forced to work in fields they would otherwise choose against.
Political narratives and ideologies like “masculinity is toxic” or “we need to close the gender gap” make war against the impressive masculinity of a man and the beautiful femininity of a woman. Many women prefer to stay home finding more value in being a mother than making six figures. This reflects the natural proclivity of a woman, making men and women amazing opposites that complement each other.
But with the constant pressure from society to erase the undeniable differences between men and women, it is no surprise that a study in 2020 by the Yale School of Medicine revealed that testosterone levels in men decreased from 605 in 1999-2000 to 451 in 2015-2016. When people blame testosterone for violent crimes, let us remind ourselves that testosterone does not make decisions, does not have a brain, and is not a cognitive organism. It is a hormone responsible for muscle growth, bone mass, body hair, mood, cognitive capability, social behavior, metabolism, energy levels, and overall well-being in your body as a man.
Did you know that studies show that fatherless families are 4x more likely to live in poverty than that for married-couple families and that the children are more likely to abuse drugs and show signs of delinquent behavior?
Data also indicates that 70% of the one million of inmates in prison today grew up without a father. Eighty-five percent of youths in prison come from fatherless homes. When fathers are absent, crime rates spike. So much for the claims that masculinity is toxic. When a father is present, his son’s likelihood for violence and crime drop off drastically.
Society’s efforts to feminize men is more than just a cultural shift from traditional norms that used to celebrate the differences between men and women. It’s an all out attack on men and how God created men.
But here is what the Almighty Creator of the universe thinks of you:
Genesis 2:7: “Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground.” Of the tens of millions of species God created by the words of His mouth, not one did God create personally as he did with man.
Genesis 2:7: “Then the Lord God…breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living creature.” God gave man a soul.
Genesis 2:15: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” God gave man responsibility.
Genesis 2:19-20 “Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.” (Gen 2:19-20). God gave man authority over the animals.
Genesis 2:18: “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’” Genesis 2:21-22: “So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.” God personally gifted man with a single mate, a woman.
If the enemy can convince you that you are just another dude whose life on planet earth is inconsequential, he can manipulate you into a life of meaninglessness and destruction.
But know this. You are worth far more than building fires, killing food, and fixing the broken water pipe underneath the sink. .
The apostle Paul said that you–you man–”are the image and glory of God” (1 Cor 11:7).
You are a man. You were made by God to be masculine, strong, and capable of great violence if needed when someone dares attack your wife and children. Do not be ashamed of your manhood. Thank God for it, nurture it, lean into it, and use it to serve, build, and protect.
